Sacred Circle Book Club
Join us for our new quarterly Indigenous Book Club. In partnership with Daybreak Star Radio, The Sacred Circle Book Club is a way to match audiences with Indigenous authors and build a community and discussion with a wide variety of stories.
Nat Thorton brings this book club to life with their insightful interviews of Indigenous authors. Leading the discussion, follow along with Nat as they journey into new stories and shine a light on the underrepresented and rising stars within the Indigenous author community.
The first Sacred Circle Book Club revolves around Michael Steven Wilson and Prof. José Antonio Lucero’s book “What Side Are You On: A Tohono O’odham Life Across Borders”. Their book combines Mike’s personal stories with Prof. Lucero’s extensive historical knowledge. Diving into Mike’s life as he grows up along the Arizona border and hearing his father’s war stories; he eventually joins the military himself. Audiences get to experience him grow and learn to become a leader and social justice activist. Prof. Lucero gives historical context to Mike’s stories, informing people on how we got to where we are as a country and as a people.
This non-fiction novel is a wonderful example of Indigenous books that the Sacred Circle Book Club wants to shed a light on. In the future, every genre of book will have its moment in the light.
